It’s been nearly two months since 18th District Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer was fatally shot near the Thompson Center downtown. He was the highest-ranking Chicago officer to die in the line of duty in nearly 30 years. Shomari Legghette was charged with first-degree murder in the case and has pleaded not guilty.
On Monday, Chicago magazine published detailed and three-dimensional portraits of both men, from their childhoods through the day Bauer was fatally shot.
The reporters behind the story, Adeshina Emmanuel and Jake Malooley, join us in conversation.
