The handiwork of Chicago’s gardeners has never been more appreciated than during this very weird year, when walks through the city’s neighborhoods have been many folks’ only source of entertainment or change of scenery.
Now it’s time to reward those green thumbs.
The Chicago Bungalow Association is holding its fourth annual garden contest, and you get to be the judge.
Association staff has winnowed down scores of submissions to 10 finalists in each of three categories — front garden, rear/side garden and window/planter garden — with popular vote determining the winners.
Contestants hail from across the city’s extensive bungalow belt, representing neighborhoods from West Ridge to Montclare to Chatham. Whether boosting their home’s curb appeal or creating a private backyard oasis, all of the entrants have put their own unique stamp on the classic Chicago bungalow.
Voting is open online through Wednesday. Winners and runners-up will be announced July 27.
