Agenda

NATO Summit

Welcome to Chicago Tonight’s online coverage of the Chicago NATO summit. We’ve gathered everything you need to know about growing protest plans, security measures, the summit’s effect on Chicago businesses, and the policies world leaders are expected to discuss. Read the latest developments here, and view our Players page to get up to speed on who matters for the summits.

Security

Even though the city is no longer hosting the more controversial G-8 conference, Chicago still expects about 7,500 protestors during the NATO summit in May. Those protests have the Chicago Police Department on alert, spending the past few months training and acquiring new riot gear.

Protests

Thousands of protesters are coming to Chicago in May for the NATO summits. The White House’s decision to move the G-8 summit to Maryland’s Camp David didn't stifle protesters; they called it a victory. Mayor Rahm Emanuel has pledged that protesters’ First Amendment rights would not be violated, but said he has rights, too.
