In need of some new books for your kids?
Well, you might just be in luck — ¡Viva! Los Libros could be coming to a neighborhood near you. The online shop just launched a bookmobile.
Owners Nina Sanchez and Michael Wren, along with their daughter Vida, are eager to share their love of reading with the community.
They were inspired by street vendors selling fruit or tamales out of carts and built the same kind of stand for their books. With a focus on bilingual children’s books, the family hopes to encourage learning about identity and justice.
The next ¡Viva! Los Libros stop will be at the Tacos y Tamales festival in Pilsen on July 19-20, with more planned through the summer and fall:
- July 24: Albany Park Lot Jams
- Aug. 2: Aurora (location TBD)
- Aug. 24-25: Hecho En Arts & Crafts Fair in Pilsen
- Sept. 21: Empanada Fest in Whiting, Indiana
- Oct. 19: Día de los Muertos Celebration in Garfield Ridge
