CTA, Pace and Metra Offer Free Rides on New Year’s Eve
Local public transit agencies are once again offering free rides on New Year’s Eve.
CTA, Pace and Metra are encouraging residents to celebrate the holiday responsibly by taking advantage of free late-night transit services. Here’s how to hitch a ride.
CTA
Free rides will be available on CTA trains and buses from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, until 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Several rail lines and bus routes will also have extended hours and extra service for the New Year’s Eve fireworks display at Navy Pier.
On New Year’s Day, CTA will be operating on a Sunday/holiday schedule.
Pace
Free rides will be available on Pace buses and ADA paratransit from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, until 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Pace will offer limited bus service during these late-night hours. Paratransit service operates 24/7 in Chicago. On New Year’s Day, Sunday schedules will be in effect for various Pace routes.
Metra
Free rides will be available on all Metra trains arriving at or departing from Metra’s downtown stations after 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
On Tuesday, train lines will be operating on reduced schedules. Alcohol will be banned on Metra trains after 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
On New Year’s Day, train lines will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. There will be no service on the Heritage Corridor, North Central and Southwest Service.
