Painter Eric Edward Esper creates accurate historical depictions of terrifying tragedies – fires, tornadoes and nautical disasters that took place in Chicago and elsewhere.

The 1915 tragedy that left more than 800 people dead in downtown Chicago is the subject of a new documentary. Meet the producers of “Eastland: Chicago’s Deadliest Day.”

One hundred years ago today, the SS Eastland sank in the Chicago River. Nearly 100 newly found photos from the Chicago Tribune offer a new look at Chicago's deadliest tragedy.  

This week, there was another new discovery of footage from Chicago's Eastland Disaster. 

The Eastland Disaster of 1915 marks the capsizing of the SS Eastland on the Chicago River that claimed at least 844 lives. It is considered one of the greatest loss-of-life tragedies in Chicago history.
