According to Chicago Police Department figures, 46 people were shot in 31 separate incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

“This was a challenging weekend for our city,” Interim Police Superintendent Fred Waller said Monday.

According to Waller, the department is looking at both short- and long-term solutions to gun violence, and will be re-allocating resources in each police district to meet specific needs in those communities.

A 23-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the 4800 block of West Rice Street when he was shot multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two hours later, a 32-year-old man was killed inside an apartment in the 1200 block of South Springfield Avenue. Police said the man was shot by a known offender.

A 35-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest and leg just before 7 a.m. in the 1700 block of West 69th Street.

Two men were shot at around noon Saturday in the 7100 block of South Peoria Street. Police said a 70-year-old victim was killed and a 24-year-old was hospitalized in good condition with a gunshot wound to his hand.

A 19-year-old man was fatally shot and a 20-year-old man was injured in a shooting in the 3800 block of West Ohio Street at around 10 p.m. Saturday. Officers responding to a report of shots fired found the 19-year-old lying face down with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later died of his injuries. The second victim was hospitalized in good condition.

A 40-year-old man was killed outside a home in the 8300 block of South Ingleside Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Police said the man was found lying face down on a porch with gunshot wounds to the neck and shoulder.

One person was killed and six others were wounded in a shooting during a gathering in the 4800 block of West Iowa Street. Police said the victims were standing in that area at around 1 a.m. Sunday when an argument broke out and an unknown person or persons began shooting. A 25-year-old woman who was shot multiple times was killed. Five other victims were hospitalized in good condition, while a sixth person, a 29-year-old man, was in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Waller said Monday there’s video of that shooting, which shows someone “firing aimlessly into a crowd,” and noted that it’s possible there was more than one shooter.

A 34-year-old man died after he was shot multiple times in the 300 block of East Huron Street just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday. A second victim, a 27-year-old man who’d been shot in the leg, later arrived at a local hospital and indicated he’d been with the first victim. Police said he refused to answer further questions.

A 30-year-old man was killed and a 31-year-old woman was injured in a shooting in the 1300 block of South Throop Street just before 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
