The Week in Review: Lightfoot Gets Blowback for Pot Plan


During the first City Council meeting since her “State of the City” address, Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Wednesday introduced a zoning ordinance that would ban recreational marijuana dispensaries in most of downtown Chicago. Lightfoot cited a desire to keep the Loop “family friendly” and protect the city’s hotel and tourism industry.

The chief sponsor of an ordinance that would raise Chicago’s hourly minimum wage to $15 by 2021 signals a potential compromise on paying tipped workers.
