Fines Begin Next Month at 11 Additional Speed Camera Locations in Chicago. Here’s Where They Are

An additional 11 speed cameras have been installed near Chicago parks and schools, as the city aims to install a total of 50 new speed cameras this year.
Warning notices without fines have started to be issued.
Following a 30-day warning period and a “blackout” period, fines will then be issued to the registered owners of vehicles going over the speed limit by 6 mph or more, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.
The following locations began issuing warnings May 1 and will begin issuing citations June 15:
- 2640 W. Peterson Ave. – Green Briar Park
- 6614 N. Central Ave. – Edgebrook Park
- 442 E. 71st St. – Meyering (William) Park
- 8553 S. Martin Luther King Drive – Cole (Nat King) Park
- 7733 S. Cottage Grove Ave. – Hirsch Metropolitan High School
- 3358 S. Ashland Ave. – Kucinski-Murphy (Vicki Rosebeth) Park
- 6146 N. Sheridan Road – Park 559
The following locations began issuing warnings May 15 and will begin issuing citations June 30:
- 49 W. 85th St. – Perspectives High School
- 614 W. 47th St. – Tilden High School
- 1635 N. LaSalle Drive – Lincoln Park
- 5941 N. Nagle Ave. – Rosedale Park
Drivers traveling 6 to 10 mph over the speed limit will be fined $35. Those traveling 11 mph or more over the limit will be fined $100.
The newly installed speed cameras are the second batch of locations announced by the city. Earlier this year, the city rolled out an initial 16 new speed camera locations. More speed camera locations are slated to be added throughout this year.
Enforcement hours for school zone cameras are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday through Friday. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the speed limit is 20 mph when children are present and reverts to the posted speed limit when no children are present. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the posted speed limit applies. For park zone cameras, enforcement is limited to the hours when each park is open, typically from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
