Man Killed in Mass Shooting at Little Village Prayer Vigil Is Among 6 Fatally Shot in Chicago Over the Weekend: Police

One man was killed and six other men were injured in a mass shooting Saturday night at a prayer vigil in Little Village, according to the Chicago Police Department. 

The men were gathered in the front yard of a home in the 2500 block of South Spaulding Avenue when a person got out of a passing Jeep and fired on the group shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday.

The seven victims all took themselves to Mt. Sinai Hospital where one of the men, a 31-year-old who had been shot multiple times, later died.

The other six victims are all listed in fair condition: a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the leg; a 51-year-old man who was shot in the buttocks; a 35-year-old man with a graze wound to the top of the head; a 39-year-old man shot in the leg and hand; a 48-year-old man shot in the leg; and a man in his 30s with gunshot wounds in his leg, shoulder and hand.

No one is in custody.

The Little Village shooting victims were among the 33 people shot in Chicago — six of them fatally — in 21 separate incidents over the weekend, between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, according to preliminary data from the Chicago Police Department.

Other fatal shootings:

On Friday, at approximately 8:15 p.m., a 42-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were both shot multiple times while struggling for a gun during an argument in the 5500 block of South Spaulding Avenue. The 42-year-old was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead; the 33-year-old is in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Also on Friday night, shortly before 11:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a person shot and found a 16-year-old boy outside on the ground in the 2400 block of South Trumbull Avenue. The boy had been shot in the lower back and was taken in critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later died. A witness told police they saw multiple males fleeing the scene after the shooting occurred. 

On Saturday morning, a 29-year-old man was in the 5700 block of South Prairie Avenue at approximately 11 a.m. when two people exited a black-colored SUV and fired shots. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Saturday night, at approximately 8:15 p.m., two men were in a yard in the 1000 block of North Lawler Avenue when someone fired shots at them. One of the victims, a 44-year-old man, was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and later died. The second victim, a 52-year-old man, was shot in the leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Early Sunday morning, at approximately 2:40 a.m., officers responded to a call of a person on the ground in the 6800 block of South Prairie Avenue. They found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead on the scene.
