DuSable Lake Shore Drive Lane Closures Shifting to Busy Stretch Between Irving Park Road and LaSalle Drive

Just when we were getting used to lane closures on the northern end of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, the Chicago Department of Transportation is shaking things up and shifting resurfacing work this week to the stretch between Irving Park Road and LaSalle Drive.

Lane closures will only affect southbound traffic.

In general, significant impacts begin at 7 p.m. and complete overnight lane closures kick in at 9 p.m., but on Tuesday CDOT announced it had decided to push back full closures to 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights to accommodate post-game Cubs traffic.   

According to CDOT, the resurfacing project is expected to be completed by late October.

Here’s a rundown of the week’s schedule:

SUNDAY, SEPT. 15 (southbound)

3 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

— All southbound lanes closed between Irving Park Road and Belmont Avenue.

— All exit and entrance ramps will be closed in that same stretch.

— Inner Lake Shore Drive will remain open to detour traffic.


MONDAY, SEPT. 16 (southbound)

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

— Only one southbound lane will be open between Irving Park Road and Fullerton Avenue.

— All ramps will be open.

9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

— All southbound lanes will be closed between Irving Park Road and Fullerton Avenue.

— All exit and entrance ramps will be closed in this stretch.

— Inner Lake Shore Drive will remain open to detour traffic.


TUESDAY, SEPT. 17 (southbound)

7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.:

— Two southbound lanse will be open between Belmont and Fullerton avenues.

— All exit and entrance ramps will be open.

10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

— All southbound lanes will be closed between Belmont and Fullerton avenues.

— Exit and entrance will be closed.

— Vehicles will exit at Belmont Avenue and detour to Fullerton Avenue via Sheridan Road and Cannon Drive.


WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 18 (southbound)

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

— Only one southbound lane will be open between Fullerton Avenue and LaSalle Drive.

— All exit and entrance ramps will be open.

9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

— All southbound lanes will be closed between Fullerton Avenue and LaSalle Drive.

— All ramps closed along this stretch.

— Vehicles will exit at Fullerton Avenue and detour to LaSalle Drive via Stockton Drive.


THURSDAY, SEPT. 19 (southbound)

7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.:

— Two southbound lanes will be open between Belmont Avenue and LaSalle Drive.

— All exit and entrance ramps will be open.

10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

— All southbound lanes will be closed between between Belmont Avenue and LaSalle Drive.

— All ramps closed along this stretch.

— Vehicles will exit at Belmont Avenue and detour to LaSalle Drive via Stockton Drive.
