A person is in custody after an 11-year-old boy was killed and a woman was injured during an apparent domestic incident on the North Side Wednesday morning, according to Chicago police.
Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th Ward) said in a statement the incident occurred around 8 a.m. in the 5900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue.
According to police, officers were called to the scene where they discovered the victims inside a residence. The 11-year-old boy sustained an injury to his chest and a 33-year-old woman suffered multiple stab wounds.
Both victims were transported to St. Francis Hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead. The woman was listed in critical condition. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the boy as 11-year-old Jaydone Perkins.
Police said one person is in custody, but the incident remains under investigation.
The death came after five people — including a 15-year-old girl — were killed in separate incidents across Chicago during a roughly two-and-a-half-hour span overnight.
Update: An earlier version of this story indicated the boy was 10 years old.
This is a developing story.
