Shootings and homicides continue to decline across Chicago in 2026, as the city is once again on pace for historic lows, new data shows.

Through the end of October, the city’s homicide total remains below last year’s pace — a year that closed with Chicago’s lowest homicide total in 60 years —according to figures from the Chicago Police Department.

There have been 356 homicides recorded through Oct. 31, according to the CPD. That’s 14 fewer than the same time last year and 154 fewer than that period in 2024.

Chicago also saw slight declines in the number of shootings (107) and homicides (34) compared to the same month last year, when there were 112 shootings and 37 homicides, police data shows.

So far in 2026 there have been 1,223 shootings and 1,560 shooting victims, according to police, which are down 4% and 2%, respectively, compared to the same time in 2025.

Violent crime overall is down 7% this year while property crime is down 1%, CPD data shows.

Chicago has also recorded declines this year in robberies (down 21%), burglaries (down 8%) and carjackings (down 26%), police said.
