6 People Killed in Shootings Across Chicago Over Weekend: Police

A 16-year-old boy was among six people killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago.

According to Chicago Police Department figures, 33 people were shot in 24 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

A 16-year-old boy died after he was found unresponsive on a sidewalk at around 10:15 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of West 81st Street. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Just over an hour later, a 39-year-old man was killed in the 0-100 block of East Lake Street. Police said he was on a sidewalk outside when he was shot in the abdomen. He was able to run into a nearby hotel and was then rushed to a local hospital where he died.

Five people were shot, one fatally, at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of South Spaulding Avenue. According to police, the victims were standing outside when two men approached and opened fire, killing a 46-year-old man. Two 40-year-old men were hospitalized in good condition, a 44-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition and a 50-year-old man refused medical attention.

A 40-year-old man was killed and a 41-year-old man was wounded in a shooting at around 1 a.m. Saturday in the 7900 block of South Marshfield Avenue. They were standing on a corner when someone opened fire, striking the 40-year-old in the back and left arm. The second victim was struck in the torso and was hospitalized in serious condition.

A 49-year-old man was fatally shot just before 2 a.m. in the 6500 block of South Kedzie Avenue. He was involved in an altercation with another man, who produced a firearm and shot the victim in the chest.

A 28-year-old man died after he was found inside a vehicle that was flipped over in the 3000 block of West 21st Street at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. He had been shot in the head while driving and later died at a local hospital.
