Nine people were killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago, including a 25-year-old woman who died in a mass shooting that left six others wounded in the Austin neighborhood early Sunday.
According to Chicago Police Department figures, 46 people were shot in 31 separate incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
“This was a challenging weekend for our city,” Interim Police Superintendent Fred Waller said Monday.
According to Waller, the department is looking at both short- and long-term solutions to gun violence, and will be re-allocating resources in each police district to meet specific needs in those communities.
