3 Killed During ‘Drifting’ Street Takeover Among 10 Dead in Weekend Shootings: Police

Three men killed during a street takeover in the Brighton Park neighborhood early Sunday were among the 10 people dead from gun violence in Chicago over the weekend.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 51 people were shot in 43 separate incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

In Brighton Park, police were responding to reports of a 100-car caravan taking over the streets at the intersection of Archer and Kedzie when shots were fired, according to 9th District Commander Don Jerome, who spoke with reporters Sunday.

Five men — all between the ages of 15 and 21 — were shot, three of whom later died. Two victims remain hospitalized, but are expected to recover, police said. 

In other incidents:

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the 1200 block of South Fairfield Avenue Saturday at approximately 8:30 p.m. While the victim was standing outside, two men drove up in a dark-colored sedan, exited the car and began shooting. The 16-year-old was hit in the back and later died at the hospital. A 13-year-old female bystander was struck twice in the neck. The girl is listed in good condition at Stroger Hospital.

Saturday night, also at approximately 8:30 p.m., police responded to a call of a person shot in the 500 block of North Leclaire Avenue and found an unidentified male victim approximately 20 to 25 years old with a gunshot wound to the head. The man was pronounced dead on scene.

An unidentified male victim approximately 40 years old was found unresponsive in the rear parking lot of an apartment complex in the 7200 block of South Phillips Avenue Saturday at approximately 9:30 p.m. The man had a gunshot wound to the head and was take to University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

On Saturday, at approximately 9:30 p.m., two men were arguing inside a residence in the 8300 block of South Marshfield Avenue when one of the men pulled a gun and shot the 31-year-old victim multiple times. The man later died at Advocate Christ Hospital. The 31-year-old offender has been arrested.

Early Sunday, shortly after 2 a.m., a 37-year-old man was shot inside a residence in the 4600 block of West 87th Street. The offender fled on foot. The victim later died at Advocate Christ Hospital from a wound to the abdomen.

Police found a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 4900 block of South King Drive at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday. The man was pronounced dead on scene.

A 50-year-old man was shot in the face Sunday shortly after 9 p.m., in the 4300 block of North Whipple Street, when he stepped out of his apartment into the hallway after hearing a disturbance. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic where he later died.
