7 People Killed in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago: Police

Twenty-five people were shot, seven fatally, over the weekend across Chicago.

According to Chicago Police Department data, there were 22 separate shootings between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

A 25-year-old man died after he was shot in the stomach and thigh just after 7 p.m. Friday. Police said the victim was involved in a narcotics transaction in the 7000 block of South Eggleston Avenue when someone produced a handgun and shot him.

A 56-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting at around 5:15 p.m. Saturday. He was walking on the sidewalk in the 600 block of South California Avenue when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking the man in the head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a woman in her mid 20s was killed Saturday when someone fired shots outside a home in the 3900 block of West Wilcox Street. A group of people were sitting on an outside porch just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday when a fight broke out and someone began shooting, striking the woman in the head and grazing a 27-year-old man. The woman later died. The man was hospitalized in good condition.

A 31-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body after police responded to a report of shots fired just before midnight Saturday in the 1300 block of East 76th Street. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

Two men, ages 25 and 28, driving in the 800 block of South Albany Avenue were killed following a shootout with someone in a second vehicle. Police said the men were driving just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a red SUV approached and someone inside opened fire. Both victims returned fire, but each man was struck and later died at Stroger Hospital.

A 44-year-old man was found dead just after 7:30 a.m. Sunday in the 10400 block of South Corliss Avenue. Police said he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on scene.
