Delia Ramirez Wins Democratic Primary in 3rd Congressional District

State Rep. Delia Ramirez won the primary becoming the Democratic nominee in the newly-drawn 3rd Congressional District.  The district is predominantly Latino and includes the Humboldt Park and Logan Square neighborhoods, and stretches west of the city to include Elgin and Bensenville.

Should she prevail against her Republican challenger, Justin Burau, in the general election in November, Ramirez wants to focus on environmental issues as well as Medicare for All and immigration reform.

Her husband was unable to vote for her because he has Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.

“Running in this district is personal to me.  Very personal.  He walked into the polling location with me and stood right next to me, and we were both in tears because he couldn’t vote for his wife,” Ramirez said on “Chicago Tonight.”

She hopes that lowering the cost of applying for citizenship will be one way to help the process for many constituents in her district.
