Mary Zimmerman Reimagines ‘The Music Man’ at Goodman Theatre
Recalling her Midwestern roots, Tony Award-winning director Mary Zimmerman emphasizes the natural world at the edge of the fictional River City.
“The Music Man” tells the story of the charismatic con man, Harold Hill, who promises small town Iowans a marching band – though he knows nothing about music. His love interest with a local librarian complicates his plan. A 12-piece orchestra brings to life beloved songs including “76 Trombones,” “Till There Was You” and “Gary, Indiana.”
This is Zimmerman’s 16th show at Goodman Theatre, where she is celebrating 25 years as Goodman’s Manilow resident director.
