Candidate Q&A
What is your vision for this office?
My vision is to provide Economic Development, Public Safety and Affordable Healthcare to the constituents of the 2nd County District.
What is the most pressing issue facing constituents, and how can you help address it?
There is not just one issue that is pressing in our community, but the most pressing issues facing constituents is the lack of Economic Development in underserved communities within the district which includes North Lawndale, East and West Garfield, and Englewood.
With a solid economic development plan we can address this issue. I plan to focus on brining businesses, in particular small businesses to the 2nd County District. This will bring job opportunities into the District. In addition, I also plan to work with the Cook County Land Bank Authority to provide home ownership opportunities to revitalize neighborhoods. With an economic development plan we can bring hope and life into communities while at the same time reducing crime.
Candidate Statement
Fiscal Responsibility, Economic Development, Healthcare, and Public Safety. Born and raised in North Lawndale, I know these issues are dear to me and the residence of the 2nd district of Cook County.
As a trained behavioral healthcare professional, and entrepreneur, I have committed my life to my community as a public servant. As Commissioner, I feel it is important for me to help my community bridge the gap between where it is and where it should be. We need to put more people to work. But we cannot have economic prosperity if we, as a society, don’t prepare our young people to be part of the workforce of tomorrow. I plan to help develop an environment where small business and jobs of the future can thrive.
Also, as Commissioner, I’ll advocate for a comprehensive healthcare package that will be available to all citizens of Cook County. I’m a firm believer that it is a right of all to have access to affordable healthcare. I also believe healthcare access should include those in need of mental and behavioral assistance.
If these problems were simple, they would be fixed. Frankly, they are not simple. So, we need leaders who both understand the community and have experience fixing the kinds of problems we face. I have a proven track record of being a leader to help resolve the complex issues that our community face. I am Dennis Deer, Commissioner of the 2nd district of Cook County, and I’m asking for your support. To learn more please go to www.commisionerdeer.com. Thank you.
