Introduced by her daughter Chelsea, Clinton laid out her prospective plans as president, criticized rival Donald Trump and thanked former Democratic presidential opponent Bernie Sanders.

Addressing Sanders supporters, Clinton said, "I want you to know, I've heard you. Your cause is our cause."

Rain and thunderstorms struck Philadelphia earlier in the day, but that didn't seem to stop a smattering of protesters from demonstrating near City Hall and large crowds of attendees from packing into the Wells Fargo Center.

That morning, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel made his first appearance before the Illinois delegation and had a front row seat at the convention.
