Chicago Named As A Finalist to Host 2028 Democratic National Convention

Chicago could host the Democratic National Convention once again.
The city was among five cities named as a finalist to host the DNC in 2028, the Democratic National Committee announced Monday.
Chicago, along with Atlanta, Boston, Denver and Philadelphia, have advanced in the application process to host the convention and will receive a site visit this spring, the announcement said.
The announcement comes on the heels of Chicago hosting the most recent DNC in 2024.
“With our extensive track-record of safely and successfully hosting large-scale events, our vibrant and diverse culture, and our status as a world-class destination — we’re confident that Chicago is best positioned to put on a convention that matches the enthusiasm, success, and energy of the 2024 DNC,” according to a Monday statement from the Chicago Bid Committee. “The team that brought Democrats the best political convention is ready to do it again.”
The Chicago Bid Committee submitted a proposal to host the convention earlier this year and met with the Democratic National Committee team last month to answer questions about its proposal.
Democratic National Committee representatives will assess the logistics of each city’s bid during site visits, according to the announcement. The committee will also consider factors such as strong partnerships between the committee and with the host city, including with its community, political and business leaders, in addition to picking a city that shares "Democratic values.”
The Democratic National Convention in 2024 generated $371.4 million in economic impact, according to the Chicago Bid Committee. During the 2024 convention, the Democratic Party nominated former Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who ultimately lost to now-President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance of the Republican Party during the presidential election.
The 2028 Democratic National Convention will be held on Aug. 7-10, 2028.
