Invasive Carp Captured in Lake Calumet, Just 7 Miles from Lake Michigan

Officials say the invasive carp’s presence does not necessarily mean there is a reproducing population of the species in the area, which is located above electric dispersal barriers. The fish captured Thursday was more than 38 inches long and weighed about 22 pounds. 

Gov. Pritzker Declares Monkeypox a Public Health Emergency in Illinois; State Marks 520 Cases

By declaring the state a disaster area for the disease, the Illinois Department of Public Health will be able to more quickly coordinate the agency’s response to the spread of the virus and distribute vaccines more efficiently, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

Chicago Police Officer Shot Sunday During Traffic Stop in Englewood

A Chicago police officer was shot and wounded Sunday afternoon during a traffic stop in the Englewood neighborhood, according to police. That marks second officer from the same police district to be shot in the last week. 

After Weekend Snowfall, Forecast Calls for Another 2 to 3 Inches During Monday Morning Commute

As of 6 a.m. Sunday, snowfall totals measured 3.6 inches at Midway Airport, 3.5 inches at O’Hare Airport and 2.8 inches in Romeoville, according to the National Weather Service. Another round of snow is expected Monday morning.
