Chicago Man Charged After Shooting During Albany Park Standoff Left SWAT Officer, Woman Injured

A Chicago man is facing nearly a dozen felony charges following a shooting during an alleged standoff in the Albany Park neighborhood Monday that left a woman and a SWAT officer injured.
Daniel Aguirre, 42, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, two counts each of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful restraint, as well as additional charges of aggravated assault of a peace officer and aggravated discharge of a firearm inside an occupied building.
He is set to appear in court for a detention hearing Wednesday.
According to Chicago police, Aguirre shot and critically wounded a 67-year-old woman at a residence in the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue before holding two other individuals — a 14-year-old girl and 42-year-old woman — hostage inside.
After the Chicago Police Department’s SWAT team was called to the scene, Aguirre allegedly shot an officer from that unit at the scene. Aguirre was then arrested a short time later.
Interim Police Superintendent Fred Waller said the officer has undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. The woman who was shot was hospitalized in critical condition, while the two hostages were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
