The lineup was announced Tuesday for a four-day house music festival that will be held at Millennium Park later this month and feature Chicago’s own DJs and artists.
The Chicago House Music Festival and Conference returns on Aug. 21-24. Events will take place at Millennium Park and other areas of downtown. Events are free and open to the public.
Celebrations kick off Thursday, Aug. 21, with the Chicago House Music Conference at the Chicago Cultural Center. The conference will include conversations with artists and music industry professionals about the changing landscape of Chicago nightlife and the role of DIY spaces, the creative process, the role of emerging technologies like AI, and collaboration across other music genres like techno and hip-hop.
The house music festival continues Aug. 22 with dance lessons and masterclasses led by professional instructors. Daytime programming will be held at the dance studio at the Chicago Cultural Center before shifting to DJ sets and more dance lessons in the evening in Grant Park. DJ sets will be by Vince Adams and DJ Lil John.
On Aug. 23, the festival will be a daylong celebration with performances across four stages in Millennium Park, along with youth workshops and a dance summit. Mainstage acts are Andre and Tony Hatchett of the Chosen Few DJs, DJ Pharris Thomas, Boolumaster, Waxmaster, Tyree Cooper, White Knight, Psycho-B and Ralph Rosario.
Visit the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events’ website for the full lineup and more information.
House music, a form of electronic dance music, originated in Chicago, growing out of the underground club scene in the city’s Black and gay communities in the early 1980s. House music has since grown and received international attention, serving as an influence for major dance and pop music hits today.
The Chicago House Music Festival wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 24, with a laid-back session of music in the afternoon along the Riverwalk, featuring DJ Jerome Baker and Julio Bishop. Attendees can bring blankets and chairs, and listen to music where the main, north and south branches of the Chicago River meet.
