7 People Fatally Shot Across Chicago Over Holiday Weekend: Police

A woman fatally shot in a suspected domestic-related incident Sunday in McKinley Park was among at least seven people killed by gunfire over the extended Columbus Day holiday weekend across Chicago.

According to Chicago Police Department figures, there were 34 people shot in 29 separate shootings between Friday and Monday evenings. One person was also killed in a “blunt trauma” incident, police said.

A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7300 block of South Greenwood just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday. He was shot multiple times and transported himself to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A 41-year old woman was killed at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the 3800 block of South Damen Avenue. She had been sitting in a vehicle in that area when a known man approached and fired shots, striking the victim in the head and chest. Police believe the shooting may have been domestic in nature.

A 27-year-old man was shot and killed in the 400 block of West 87th Street just before midnight Sunday night. He was found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A 19-year-old man was fatally shot in the 100 block of North Menard Avenue at around 6:45 p.m. Monday. The victim was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the neck and was later pronounced dead.

A 30-year-old man was killed as he attempted to enter a restaurant in the 4100 block of West 26th Street at around 11:30 p.m. Monday. The victim was walking inside when two unknown men fired shots, striking him multiple times and a female employee once in the buttocks. The man was pronounced dead on scene and the woman was hospitalized in serious condition.

A 61-year-old man was found dead inside a home in the 7100 Block of South East End at around midnight Monday night. Officers responding to a residence in that area discovered the victim, who was unresponsive and pronounced dead on scene.
