13-Year-Old Boy Among 7 People Killed by Gunfire Over Weekend Across Chicago: Police

A 13-year-old boy who was fatally shot in North Lawndale Friday evening was among at least seven people killed by gunfire across Chicago over the weekend.

According to the Chicago Police Department, 45 people were shot in 35 separate shooting incidents between Friday and Sunday evenings.

Police said the 13-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard just before 8:30 p.m. Friday when he was shot in the head by an unknown male. The boy was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, but later died.

Two people were shot, one fatally, in the 3000 block of North Cicero Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The victims — a 30-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman — were sitting in a vehicle when a second vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots. The man later died of his injuries, and the woman was hospitalized in critical condition.

One man was fatally shot and two others were injured in a shooting around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 4500 block of South Evans Avenue. Police believe the victims were shot at by multiple people, who then fled the area on foot. A 35-year-old man was killed, while ​​a 26-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were struck and hospitalized.

Police responding to a report of a person shot around 2:30 a.m. Sunday discovered a man between the ages of 35 and 40 who had been shot multiple times in the 11500 block of South LaSalle Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

More than 12 hours later, in that same block, another man was killed in a separate shooting around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Two men, ages 34 and 59, were in that area when a third man approached and opened fire. The 34-year-old was killed, and the 59-year-old was hospitalized in serious condition.

Two men were killed in the 3100 block of West 25th Street around 5 a.m. Sunday. Police located an unresponsive man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his head. A second man was also found and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Two more people were killed early Monday morning: a 45-year-old man who was fatally shot in the 7600 block of North Paulina Street and a 39-year-old man killed in the 7700 block of South South Chicago Avenue.
