February is Black History Month and to celebrate, we’re spotlighting a Chicago Black history maker every week.  This week’s history maker is nationally recognized architect Wendell Campbell.  

Born in 1927 in East Chicago, Indiana, Campbell moved to Chicago later in life. He launched his own architecture firm in 1966, Wendell Campbell Associates. He was also a founder of the National Organization of Minority Architects.  

We teamed up with Chicago's Urban Historian “Dilla” Thomas to learn more about Campbell and his legacy in Chicago.

“To Chicago, Wendell Campbell designed the DuSable Museum expansion, the Harold Washington Wing, he’s also one of the designers of the McCormick Place expansion wing,” said Thomas.

Campbell passed away in 2008 at the age of 81.
