The Chicago Transit Authority is launching another round of pop-up events for riders to ask questions and give feedback to transit leadership and staff, the agency announced Tuesday.

The events are designed for CTA leaders and staff to have open, informal conversations with riders about service, safety, improvements and rider priorities, according to the transit agency. The feedback will be used by the agency to help plan for the next CTA budget and prioritize future investments, according to the agency.

The next round of events will be held at eight transit system locations and are scheduled to start in mid-July and run through the end of the month. Events will be held from 4-6 p.m.

The next round of pop-up events builds on “strong turnout and meaningful rider feedback” during previous events held last month, according to a news release.

“‘CTA Chats’ is among our most important new initiatives because we meet our riders in their communities and invite them to partner with us as we envision CTA’s future,” CTA acting President Nora Leerhsen said in a statement. “The first round of these interactive events throughout June was very successful and we’re excited to continue the momentum by connecting with even more riders this summer.”

The rider feedback pop-up series comes as Chicago-area transit faces a $770 million budget gap next year, which would lead to severe service cuts if transit agencies do not receive additional funding.

There are no changes to CTA’s service plan this year, but the agency will soon consider multiple plans for next year, including planning for a “severe and sobering” scenario in which state lawmakers do not come through with transit funding, Leerhsen said during a CTA board meeting last month.

Last month, rider feedback events were held at nearly a dozen locations: the Union Station Transit Center, Illinois Medical District Blue Line station, Garfield Green Line station, the Navy Pier bus terminal, Loyola Red Line station, Paulina and Howard bus terminal, Belmont/Kimball Blue Line bus terminal, 95th Dan Ryan Red Line station, Jefferson Park Blue Line bus terminal, Roosevelt Red/Orange/Green Line station and the Midway Orange Line bus terminal.
