PAWS Chicago Aims to Find Homes For 120 Animals During Spring Adoption Event

The city’s largest no-kill shelter PAWS Chicago is hosting its annual spring “adopt-a-thon” this weekend, with the goal of finding homes for 120 animals, the shelter announced.
PAWS Chicago is extending its adoption hours and adding additional appointments for the upcoming event, which will be held at the PAWS Chicago Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center, 1997 N. Clybourn Ave., in Lincoln Park during the following hours:
- Friday, May 16: noon to midnight
- Saturday, May 17: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
- Sunday, May 18: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Adoption appointments are recommended, but walk-in guests are welcome, according to the shelter.
PAWS Chicago serves as the largest rescue transfer partner of the city-run Chicago Animal Care and Control, which continues to see increased euthanasia numbers and overcrowding.
The spring adoption event also comes as shelters brace for “litter season,” according to PAWS Chicago, which is when newborn litters increase as the weather gets warmer.
The surge can quickly strain shelter capacity, putting animals at risk of euthanasia in open-admission facilities, according to a news release.
“As the days grow warmer, countless litters are born with nowhere to go, and too many end up on the streets or in overcrowded shelters,” PAWS Chicago Head of Operations Celene Mielcarek said in a news release. “Every adoption is a lifeline — not just for the pet going home, but for the next one we can save.”
During adoption appointments, prospective adopters can meet available animals and speak with staff and volunteers about the adoption process, according to the shelter.
You can schedule an adoption appointment and find a list of adoptable animals on PAWS Chicago’s website. The shelter also posts new arrivals on its social media.
