8 Killed in Shootings Over Labor Day Weekend Across Chicago: Police

Eight people were killed and more than two dozen were injured in shootings across Chicago during the extended Labor Day holiday weekend.
According to the Chicago Police Department, 37 total people were shot in 30 separate shooting incidents between Friday and Monday evenings.
The number of homicides matched the total from the same holiday weekend in 2025, though the number of shooting victims declined by about 36%.
A 28-year-old man died after he was shot following an altercation at around 11:15 p.m. Friday in the 7300 block of South Kedzie Avenue. Police said he was involved in a verbal argument with a man in that area, who produced a firearm and shot the victim in the abdomen. The victim transported himself to a local hospital, where he later died.
A 29-year-old man was killed in a shooting in the 6500 block of South Laflin Street at around 2 a.m. Saturday. He was approached by two men, one of whom produced a firearm and fired shots before they fled the scene in a vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 42-year-old woman was fatally shot inside a home in the 2100 block of West Jackson Boulevard just after midnight Sunday morning. She was found inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A 20-year-old man was fatally shot as he sat inside a vehicle in the 300 block of North Lamon Avenue at around 12:15 p.m. Sunday. Police said a man approached on foot and fired multiple shots at the victim. The victim later died at a local hospital.
A 26-year-old man was killed at around 8 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of North Harding Avenue. He was found unresponsive by first responders with a gunshot wound to the back and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
A 27-year-old woman was found dead inside a home in the 6300 block of South Vernon Avenue at around 7:30 a.m. Monday. She was discovered unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men were killed following an argument at a home in the 600 block of West 74th Street just before midnight Monday night. Police said the men, ages 45 and 32, got into a verbal altercation with another man inside the residence. He then produced a firearm and fired shots, striking and killing the two other men. The alleged shooter was arrested, and police recovered two guns from the scene.
