Winter Making a Comeback, With Freezing Rain Likely to Snarl Wednesday’s PM Commute

Winter isn’t through with Chicago yet.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, with freezing rain likely to snarl the evening commute.
The advisory starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday for areas south of I-80 and 6 p.m. for areas north of the interstate, running through 6 a.m. Thursday.

The glazing of ice will make for treacherous conditions on roads and sidewalks, right around the timing of Wednesday’s evening commute. Most of the icing will occur between 6 p.m. and midnight, with impacts potentially lingering into Thursday morning, the weather service said.
Following the blast of cold air and precipitation, temperatures on Thursday are expected to rebound into the 40s, before things turn February-like again on Friday.
