Burst of Heavy Snow Made a Mess of the Roadways, But Brookfield Zoo’s Polar Bear Had the Time of His Life
A burst of heavy snow hit Chicago late Thursday morning and while it didn’t last long, the flakes piled up quickly, making a mess of the roadways into the lunch hour.
According to the Chicago office of the National Weather Service, 2.7 inches of snow were recorded by noon at O’Hare International Airport, the city’s official weather site. Unofficially, 2.4 inches fell at Midway Airport.
Rain and drizzle were expected to linger into the evening, forecasters said, with dry conditions moving in for the weekend.
Chicago’s Department of Streets and Sanitation said its salt spreaders would be deployed through the evening commute on arterial streets, DuSable Lake Shore Drive, bridges and overpasses.
The abrupt shift in weather from what had been an unseasonably warm November may not have been appreciated by motorists, but winter’s sudden appearance had at least one big fan.
Hudson the polar bear looked positively giddy as he frolicked in the snow at Brookfield Zoo. We should all love something as much as Hudson loves snow.
