Chicago Could Set Record High Temp Tuesday, But Hold Onto Your Hat. Strong Winds, Cold Front Are Coming
The final week of October is feeling more like summer, with potentially record high temperatures in the 80s forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, before a cold front moves in and brings Chicagoans back to reality.
The National Weather Service is warning that the combination of warm temperatures, dry conditions and strong southwest winds poses a fire danger, particularly on Tuesday. A fire watch is in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday for areas south of I-80. Any grass or brush fires could quickly spread out of control, the weather service said.
The strongest winds — 45-55 miles per hour — are expected Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon, dying down for trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Keep an eye on decorations that could blow away in a gust.
A cold front will move in Wednesday night, ushering in more seasonal temperatures and the likelihood of rain.
Here are temperature records to watch: The high for Oct. 29 is 78 degrees, set in 1999; the high for Oct. 30 is 85 degrees, set in 1950.
