Chicago is under an excessive heat warning through Tuesday night, with temperatures expected to soar into the mid- to upper-90s and humidity that will make it feel even hotter.

According to the National Weather Service, this is the hottest air to bake Chicago this summer. Monday’s forecast calls for heat indices between 95 and 105 degrees and Tuesday will be even hotter, with heat indices between 110 and 115 degrees. “Cooler by the lake” doesn’t offer much relief, with Tuesday’s heat index still expected to reach 100 degrees.

The heat also bring a threat of severe thunderstorms, with damaging winds and torrential downpours, the weather service said. Tuesday currently looks more likely to produce storms.

People are advised to limit outdoor activity and to take advantage of Chicago’s cooling centers, which include public libraries, Park District facilities, police stations, city colleges and senior centers.

Cook County has also activated cool centers at courthouses and other locations.
