According to the Chicago Police Department, 11 people were shot in 11 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

A 61-year-old man was fatally shot at around 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of West 72nd Street. He was sitting inside a vehicle when two unknown people approached and opened fire, striking the victim twice. He was pronounced dead on scene.

A 57-year-old man was killed in the 4800 block of West Chicago Avenue just after 9 p.m. Saturday. According to police, he was inside a laundromat in that area when another person entered and fired shots before fleeing on foot. The victim was struck multiple times and died at a local hospital.

A 49-year-old man died after being shot in the 600 block of South Washtenaw Avenue just after 6 a.m. Sunday. The victim was standing outside in that area when a vehicle approached and an unknown number of people inside fired shots. He was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead.

A Chicago police officer and another man were also wounded in an “exchange of gunfire” early Monday morning in the Gold Coast.

According to Police Superintendent Larry Snelling, officers responding to a reported burglary at around 4 a.m. encountered multiple people in the 100 block of East Walton. At least one of those people was armed and Snelling said he and the officers fired shots.

The man was struck and was undergoing surgery later Monday morning. The officer — a 55-year-old man who has been with the CPD for 17 years — was struck in the leg and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

Snelling said police are searching for multiple other people they believe were involved in the alleged burglary.
