Spotlight Politics: Illinois Dems Focus on Unity, Target GOP Nominee Darren Bailey at State Fair


In this week’s edition of Spotlight Politics:

Today is Governor’s Day at the State Fair and after a blistering battle over control of the Democratic Party of Illinois, there's an attempt at unity now.  Tomorrow is GOP Day at the fair where the Republican nominee for governor, Darren Bailey, is going to try to deflect from his campaign’s latest social media controversy — this time it’s his running mate’s explosive anti-gay and transphobic postings surface.  Meanwhile, Darren Bailey has changed his tune, saying that "Joe Biden is the duly elected president."   So, how large does Donald Trump loom in the midterms?

In other politics, Highland Park passes a measure calling for a ban on semi-automatic weapons, high-capacity magazines, and body armor.  And Naperville follows with a ban on commercial sales of assault rifles.  There was a hearing today about an emergency rule that Gov. Pritzker and the State Police filed to try to fix a loophole that would have prevented the sale of the weapon used in the Highland Park massacre.
