3 Killed, 40 Shot Over the Weekend in Chicago: Police

Forty people were shot, three fatally, in 34 separate shooting incidents across Chicago between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The victims included a 17-year-old boy, who was killed inside a South Side home Saturday evening.

According to police, the teen was in the basement of a house in the 100 block of East 107th Street when he was shot multiple times by an unknown offender shortly after 6 p.m. He was transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead.

A 44-year-old man was killed Saturday night in the 600 block of East 92nd Place. Police responding to a ShotSpotter alert at around 10:40 p.m. found the man lying outside with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people were struck just after 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon in a drive-by shooting outside an apartment building in the 3400 block of West Douglas Avenue. A 43-year-old man was shot in the head and killed, and a 32-year-old man was hit in the leg. That man transported himself to Stroger Hospital for treatment.

Over the weekend, there were also two non-fatal triple shootings.

A 29-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were shot as they sat inside a vehicle in the 1200 block of North Dearborn Street, and a 23-year-old man walking by was struck in the foot. The 27-year-old was struck in the head and is in critical condition, while the other two victims were hospitalized in fair-to-good condition.

The violence also continued into early Monday morning, when three people were shot in the 8800 block of South Parnell Avenue. Just after 2:30 a.m., three men, ages 27, 28 and 33, were each shot by an unknown offender who opened fire from a sidewalk. The 33-year-old was struck multiple times and was hospitalized in serious condition. The 28-year-old was hospitalized in fair condition, while the 27-year-old was in good condition.
