On Tuesday, the FBI published photos and a brief video of a man who they believe is responsible for a “potential hate crime assault” at the Argyle Red Line station. The Chicago Police Department released those same photos last week as part of its ongoing investigation.

According to the FBI, an unknown suspect followed a male victim into the station at around 1:18 p.m. on Aug. 15. The suspect then struck the victim in the head from behind, causing him to fall. The suspect then said the victim deserved the assault and used an ethnic slur against both the victim and his partner, the FBI said.

The suspect is described as a Black male with a medium build and thin goatee facial hair. In the published photos, he can be seen wearing a diamond stud earring in his right ear, a silver watch on his left arm, a metallic bracelet on his right arm, a gold-colored chain around his neck and a Chicago White Sox baseball hat.

A three-second video also published Tuesday shows the suspect walking down a flight of stairs at the Red Line station.

Anyone with information about the suspect can contact CPD detectives at 312-744-8261 or the FBI Chicago Office at 312-421-6700. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at tips.fbi.gov.
