Nineteen aldermen forced a special City Council meeting this week to question Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown about the department’s violence prevention strategy ahead of the holiday weekend. Brown defended his plan and pointed the finger for recent spikes in violence at criminal courts and electronic monitoring for allowing offenders to walk free.

“Burger King Ed”
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Thursday that Ald. Ed Burke (14) was behind the recent City Council chaos and special meeting Friday, dubbing the longtime Chicago politician “Burger King Ed,” in reference to Burke’s alleged shakedown of a Southwest Side Burger King.

Trump Organization Indictments
Prosecutors in New York have charged the Trump Organization and its Chief Financial Officer, Allen Weisselberg, with tax fraud in a deliberate 15-year scheme to compensate company executives off the books

Jan. 6 Committee
The House of Representatives voted to create a committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Only two Republicans signed on: Wyoming’s Liz Cheney and Illinois’ Adam Kinzinger, both staunch critics of former President Donald Trump. Cheney will also serve on the committee.
