Candidate Forum: Republican Ives Aims to Unseat Casten in 6th District

Scientist and entrepreneur Sean Casten flipped Illinois’ 6th Congressional District from deep red to blue in 2018 when he defeated U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, who held the seat for six terms from 2007 to 2019.

Now, the freshman Democratic U.S. representative is running to keep his seat against Republican Jeanne Ives and Libertarian Bill Redpath.

The 6th District includes Lake Zurich, Barrington, Naperville, Downers Grove, St. Charles and Wheaton and touches parts of Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties. It has been held by Republicans for decades, including House Judiciary Chairman U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde from 1975 to 2007.

Joining “Chicago Tonight” for a candidate forum is:

Jeanne Ives, a former state lawmaker who represented her U.S. House district in the  General Assembly from 2013 to 2019. She is a West Point graduate and an Army veteran who ran unsuccessfully for governor against Bruce Rauner in 2018.
