Candidate Statement

Hi, Sean Casten here. I am honored to serve as your representative in Congress.

Across the district, we’ve had over 40 public, free and open townhalls and a ton more listening sessions, meetings, and events.

These opportunities are so important to me to ensure that I am accountable and accessible to the folks I represent - whether in person or virtual. I hope everyone has a chance to discuss the topics that matter most to you, your family, and to our community.

These events have given me the opportunity to hear from constituents that there is no more pressing concern than the health and economic challenges we’re facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic has changed life for all of us. I’m proud to have supported bi-partisan legislation that approved funding for thousands of businesses in the district, meaning that thousands of residents were able to keep their jobs.

In these uncertain times, no American should have to reconsider getting the medical attention they need because their insurance might not cover it. I believe, and I think everyone believes, that we should all have access to affordable health care.

That’s why I voted to protect Americans with pre-existing medical conditions,
lower premiums, and reduce prescription drug costs.

But my proudest accomplishment in Congress is the report I developed with the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.

This report is a roadmap to fight climate change, and Vox.com called it “the most detailed and well-thought-out plan for addressing climate change that has ever been a part of US politics.”

Throughout my term, I remain committed to working for families across the district, and more importantly, for future generations.

Thank you for your support and for your trust.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I am running for office to combat the climate crisis, provide Americans with accessible and affordable health care, and ensure that we support policies that grow our economy and build a 21st Century infrastructure.

What is your vision for this office?

My vision is to provide a better future for the residents of Illinois 6th, and more importantly, for future generations to come. Across the district, we’ve over 40 public, free and open town halls and a ton more listening sessions, meetings, and events. These opportunities are so important to me to ensure that I am accountable and accessible to the folks I represent. And with a ton more events planned, I hope everyone has a chance to come and discuss the topics that matter most to you, your family and our community.

What do you think is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

During a global pandemic, no American should have to reconsider going to the doctor if they get sick out of fear that their insurance won’t cover it. I voted to protect Americans with pre‐existing medical conditions, lower premiums, and reduce prescription drug costs because I believe, and I think everyone believes, that all Americans should have access to affordable health care.
