Anonymous Artist Dont Fret Turns Office Space Into Art Gallery

A public relations office in Lakeview is finding new life as an art gallery.

Nestled between computers, tape dispensers and staplers in the office of Carol Fox and Associates sits the latest collection by anonymous Chicago artist Dont Fret.

The show is “managed” by Allan Bergski, who dresses up as a janitor to act as a sort of tour guide.

The exhibit includes objects typically found in an office — based on Fret’s imitation of working in an office, since he’s never actually worked in one, we’re told.

“There’s magazines and plates,” Bergski said during a recent visit. “We know everyone has office plants that die, so we made a bunch of office plants. There’s also some really cool drinking cups.”

You may even see someone you recognize — Fret’s detailed characters are based on Chicagoans.

“Through dialogue, or through situations, he just tries to make people laugh and bring a little happiness to everyday life,” Bergski said.

Carol Fox says it was an easy decision to share office space with one of the firm’s clients.

“It feels great,” Fox said. “We’ve devoted our careers to the arts and to the artist and this was just one more unexpected step along the way. His sense of humor. The fact that it’s so relevant for the times. I think he has a dark, sarcastic way of looking at life and I appreciate that.”
