Spotlight Politics: Officials Flirt with Pandemic Pullback


Mayor Lori Lightfoot says she will do everything in her power to reverse the uptick in COVID-19 cases. “We are dangerously close to going back to a dangerous state of conditions,” she said Wednesday.

Just hours later, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced a new COVID-19 mitigation plan to combat a resurgence of the virus. “This virus has not gone away. It’s still infecting people and will likely continue to do so for months,” Pritzker said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the man who is second-in-command at the Chicago Police Department is stepping down, and President Donald Trump took aim — again — at Chicago violence.
