Chicago author Mikki Kendall coined the term “hood feminism” — a community action-based approach to feminism that includes a group that is often left out of the movement’s mainstream: women of color.
These days, the term is as relevant as ever. Women at protests denouncing police brutality are taking on roles as organizers and providing support to those involved.
Kendall, the author of “Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women that the Movement Forgot,” joins “Chicago Tonight” to discuss the role of feminists in the fight against racism and police brutality.
