Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has covered a lot of ground since leaving office. On Tuesday, he completed a 900-mile bike ride around Lake Michigan that took him through four states. In a Facebook post, Emanuel said the trip was a “long-held dream.”

“I saw awesome sunsets from Michigan and breathtaking sunrises from Wisconsin. I rode the new Chicago bike trail and the old rail lines of Indiana,” Emanuel said in a Facebook post. “I saw classic lighthouses, weathered barns, the ‘Tunnel of Trees,’ the crumbling smokestacks of old industry and the glimmering solar panels of the new.”

While Emanuel called the lake a “true natural wonder,” he said the “true character of the lake is reflected in the people around it. Everywhere I went, people were quick with a hello, easy with a smile, and generous with their help.”

After leaving office late last month, it was announced Emanuel will become a contributor to both ABC News and The Atlantic.
