On Friday, May 1, Chicago Tonight staff rolled up their sleeves to plant the first round of crops in the WTTW garden with The Organic Gardener Jeanne Nolan. Crops included plants selected by viewers and a few by The Organic Gardener.
Watch Phil Ponce and Jeanne Nolan discuss what’s being planted in the WTTW garden.
While we just wrapped up planting our first round of crops, we’re already looking ahead to our summer planting. Once again we’re asking viewers to help us select some of the crops based on Nolan’s recommendations. The crops listed below are the ones she’s decided to plant in the WTTW garden.
Turkish Orange Eggplant
This beautiful heirloom eggplant is three inches round, with a very sweet and flavorful flesh.
Tricolor Bush Beans
These beans are a rainbow of flavor and color in the garden and at the table.
The leaves, pods, and flowers are all edible, with a slight peppery taste. They are used in salads and as a garnish.
This flower grows 8-16 inches tall and attracts beneficial insects.
Help us choose which crops to plant for the summer. Vote in our interactive polls through May 18.
