‘America’s Test Kitchen’ Hits the Road With Fall Tour, New Cocktail Recipe Book

“America’s Test Kitchen” has been at it for 25 years — with hosts trying out different cooking techniques, reviewing kitchen gadgets and perfecting recipes. Now, they’re taking all of that experience on the road with a live tour that promises a behind-the-scenes look at how the test kitchen works.

Also on the horizon: a new recipe book of spirited and zero-proof cocktails.

“Cocktails Illustrated” contains more than 400 recipes, including 50 mocktails for the sober and sober-curious.

“What’s interesting is that zero-proof cocktails have really exploded on the scene,” said co-host Bridget Lancaster. “We didn’t want to just put together a fruit juice combination. So, we had to examine what alcohol is actually adding. You’ve got body, you’ve got aroma, you’ve got flavor. We’ve got some unexpected ways to add similar flavors in there.”

Lancaster and co-host Julia Collin Davison are pulling back the curtain in more than a dozen cities as part of their live conversations with fans. Culinary enthusiasts may have the opportunity to join Davison and Lancaster on stage to test out gadgets and learn from the best.

“One of the tests is we’re going to have people come up and use a peeler to peel a carrot,” Davison said. “Somebody on that stage is not going to be able to peel a carrot because the peeler is so bad. So talking about equipment that works is a really interesting part of what we do and it’s fun to get across that it’s not always your fault if the food doesn’t turn out.”

Davison and Lancaster will be at Des Plaines Theatre on Tuesday night for a sold-out live show.

“Cocktails Illustrated” hits shelves Nov. 4.
