(Michael Izquierdo / WTTW News)
Five people were killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago, including a trio who were fatally shot Sunday morning in Greater Grand Crossing.
According to the Chicago Police Department, 12 people were shot in 10 separate incidents between Friday and Sunday evenings.
A 35-year-old man was killed in the 3300 block of West Franklin Street at around 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Police responding to a report of shots fired located the victim, who’d been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Three people were killed in the 500 block of East 76th Street at around 2:15 a.m. Sunday. The victims were walking in that area when they got into a verbal altercation with two unknown people. Those two then got into a silver SUV, pulled up to the victims and opened fire. The three victims — two men and a woman — were each taken to local hospitals but died of their injuries.
A 34-year-old man was fatally shot in the 100 block of West 113th Street just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers located the victim unresponsive inside a vehicle in that area. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died.
A person was also killed and a CTA bus driver was injured in a shooting onboard a bus in the 3400 block of South State Street just after midnight Monday. Two men were fighting toward the back of the bus when one of them produced a firearm and fired shots, killing the other man. The driver of the bus was wounded in the shoulder and hospitalized in good condition.
