Candidate Statement
Good afternoon, My name is Charles Hughes. I am running for congressmen in the 3rd Congressional District of Illinois.
I have worked for Nicor Gas Company for 20 years as an operation mechanic. I am a member of Local 19 IBEW.
As a member of a union, I feel we need to strengthen organized labor, and I will fight to give citizens a livable wage.
I believe public service is about finding solutions that actually work for the American people that we are elected to serve and that’s why I am running for congress.
I promise to tackle health care for the American people by introducing a provision to allow the people an exchange plan called D.C. Health Link, which would help those with poor health plans or no insurance.
We can improve Medicare and Social Security through the exchange plan.
I am proud of our military and will support our troops. I want President Trump to re-instate the re-enlistment bonus to our troops, one of which is my son in the 1st Calvary Division.
I will work to structure a real immigration plan to solve our current issues. I will support the DREAM Act.
Women in America are the 8th Wonder of the World. I promise to support and listen to women’s concerns.
I am pro-choice and support a woman’s right to choose. Women need a safe and honest approach to this subject.
I want to re-test the HPV vaccine for the safety of our children and make sure it’s not making things worse. The CDC admits to 71 deaths due to the HPV vaccine. I support the concern of mothers in the 3rd District.
I want to solve the retirement savings problem in the United States. How I am going to accomplish this goal is a mandatory contribution of 5% by every company for each employee. This would constitute a second layer in a retirement savings plan, on top of social security.

Why are you running?
I believe public service is about finding solutions that actually work for the American people we serve, and that’s why I’m running for Congress for the 3rd Dist. The challenges that face our country will require hard work, innovative ideas and ability to get things done.
What is your vision for this office?
Meet with constituents to discuss new legislation and hear voters concerns. Work hard to improve the lives of constituents. I will introduce bills to Congress for review. Help set [a] National Budget, and bring more federal money into the district.
What do you think is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?
Health care. I would like everyone to be able to join Exchange D.C. Health Link. [It’s the] same insurance as Congress and Federal Employees. 57 different plans to choose from. Silver, gold and platinum. Introduce a bill in congress.
